Flowers are nature’s fireworks and exclamation point! They have the power to stop the eye, accent the background, and they command attention. The only problem is that no matter the beauty of live floral arrangements, the have a short life span in decorating. So when decorating your home or office with floral arrangements, you should strongly consider Faux Flower Arrangements. And, don’t be afraid to punctuate with floral arrangements, just punctuate wisely. Here are some decorating tips:
- Follow the accent principle
Accents are spread throughout the room in three different places. This helps move the eye around the room and distribute the color. Use flowers as an accent.
- Don’t be a real flower snob
There are no rules about real or fake flowers in the home! It is up to you and what you like. For me, I have a cat that will eat anything that is remotely real, so I have to have silks. So to my readers who want flowers but a “friend” said fake flowers are passé that is their personal opinion and not a rule! Have your flowers and enjoy!
- They must look real
I love orchids because they look so realistic. If you are someone who does not like silks, the orchid is a great place to start. The one’s that I prefer look so amazing I would challenge anyone to pick it out as fake. If you are buying great looking fake stems for orchids plan on at least twenty five dollars a stem.
If you don’t like flowers at all but want the softness of something in nature, try succulents. The natural waxy nature of a succulent makes it easy to replicate a faux succulent. They always look amazingly real.
- Little pops of color
I love little vases with nothing but buds of all the same flower. I love roses presented this way. Lots of rose buds and open roses placed in a container with a tight presentation looks amazing and even the cheap roses when presented this way look real.
I love hydrangea and I feel the need to have them in my house because it is a southern standard! I love looking at them and find them very welcoming. However, cheap hydrangea don’t present out as well as the more expensive hydrangea stems. You want to look for realistic petals and the color is important. My favorite hydrangea is the green butterfly hydrangea… they look so real it is mind boggling.
- Use greenery to fill large spaces and soften the room
We use fern in baskets to fill large openings above cabinets. The key is using all the same fern. We don’t use all different types of greenery because it gets too busy.
- The trend of today
The trend of floral design today is to really look real! We accomplish this by using less filler in the arrangements and more of the same stems of flowers. They eye does appreciate the repetition and it looks nice to have a less busy arrangement. Also, if you are creating your own faux floral arrangements think about how a fresh flower florist would present this flower and mimic that to the best of your ability.
