Refresh and Renew

Usually from the last week of December into the first week of January is a super busy time for personal projects due Christmas decorations and travel of my clients. However, this year my personal projects extended into the end of January because I decided to do a few DIY things. So what were my personal projects you ask? My husband and I installed bead board onto the ceiling of our master bedroom and my office.

Shift Work

This week has been a week of shifting! The ability to find the appropriate place to hang things is born out of experience and years of doing the work! Often times customers have all the items they need to make a space great, they just don’t know where to hang the items for the maximum visual impact. I have spent the week shifting things in houses and when we move things around that is when the magic happens.

Endless Journey

I hope that I never get to my destination because that would be the end of the journey. I believe the journey is the destination; it is within the journey that we find growth and discovery. It is the traveling of the paths that keeps us lively and interested. We all know that the one constant in life is change, so then it is the journey that is constant and the path that yields to change.

Opening Doors

“The New Year will open many new doors ….all you have to do is walk through some of them.” This is a deep thought authored by Ruth Dyer; I wrote on the card I was sending off to a friend and I chuckled as I sealed it. We as a people are fascinated with doors; I have hung pictures of doors from around the world on my client’s walls. In Key West, there are cute entrances to side yards that…

Guest Bath Basics

Over the seven mile bridge and through the keys off to Key West we go! I love a quick trip to Key West the third week in December. The island is quiet and all lit up for a Conchy Christmas. The temperature does not get over 75 degrees and there is a general feeling of lightness in the air. We always head back home before the 21st because the island becomes a Christmas madhouse.

Christmas Workout

“This is the basketball player workout Aunt Ruth”, my niece said as she ran from side to side. “You do it too! Follow me”, she ran beside me and gave me a beckoning wave. All I could think about was twisting my arthritic knee and an instant flash of pain shot up my leg. I do wish I could work out and run around with such childlike enthusiasm but not if I want to walk the next day. I watched…

Christmas 365

“Oh I wish we could keep the Christmas lights up all year long,” My niece said with excitement as we turned on the strands of lights running across the ceiling of my living room. “Can we do this in my room at home?” she asked. “Well maybe but this really only works here because I have high ceilings in my living room. We will see...” is where I left it.

My Favorite Things

I am drawn like a moth to a flame to anything sparkly and bright, from a clear sky full of stars to Christmas lights wrapped around a tree; I love little points of glowing light. I looked up and shimmering light rained down like diamonds dripping from the cool night sky. We moved through the mesh of lights and the music surrounded us pulling us deeper and deeper into the glowing Main Street of Walt Disney World. We were making…

Fresh Faced Wisteria

I could smell fresh bananas and see the left over peel just lying on the counter of my newly cleaned kitchen. Accompanying the peel was a cracked egg shell and my very cute pooh bear honey pot. The pile of fresh food detritus was lying beside a white bowl containing a gelatinous mixture, so I knew that my niece had been busy in the kitchen! “Aunt Rooooth!” my niece said with an emphasis on the “OO”. “Please, tell me you…

Fabulous Foyers

My niece and I communicate by Face Timing when she has become bored or she wants something! So on a recent Face Time session I noticed that her room was beyond disarray and looked alarmingly junky. I told her that it looked as if she had stood in the center of the room and thrown things at random. She informed me that she liked it that way and that “she” was one of those messy organized people. I replied by…

Dazzling Dining Rooms

They often sit unnoticed in silent isolation. They awake from their deep slumber to the aroma of turkey and their walls ring with the happy laughter of voices. They have a short and hectic holiday life but like a bear seeking hibernation, they fall back into their state of peaceful sleep with the turn of the calendar year. I think dining rooms are often the neglected souls of our home but in an open floor plan a neglected dining room…
