Decorating Tips

Change with the Classics!

“This will be my last Halloween!” my niece Regan announced. She is a tween and on the precipice of becoming a teenager. For her swansong All Hallows eve character she has chosen to be a Corpse Bride. She has selected for her special night, a fashionable ripped and dirty wedding gown. Grandma has created her a special tiara that makes even the most undead corpse bride come alive with sparkle and gleam. Her shoes will be tattered wrecks of strappy…

Lanai Love

Many of our seasonal friends are shocked to discover, upon moving to Florida for good that Florida summers are often hot and muggy! If you are reading this, you more than likely have just endured your first Florida summer. If you are a permanent resident, congratulations, you made it through another hot one.

Flamingo Fun

Pink wings tipped in black moved against an azure sky. My eyes scanned the view above and I wondered if they were deceiving me or was I the luckiest girl in the world? I have been raised in Florida from the age of four and have traveled from tip to toe never seeing a flamingo in the wild and here above Tampa bay I was seeing a flamboyance in the sky. I fixed my gaze with excited determination to watch…

Focal Point

In Design the term focal point is used quite often but have you ever wondered what it really means? The focal point is simply the wall with the greatest visual emphasis. The wall that usually receives the most visual emphasis is the largest wall in the room. Everything else in the room such as smaller walls and furniture should visually support and work to achieve harmony with the focal wall. When you properly establish a strong focal wall, the room…

Black, White and Glam

Search articles on the internet about updates in the home and there you will find written in black and white one re-occurring theme; update the kitchen. A potential buyer sees an out of date kitchen and the dollar signs start blinking, warning them to move on to another home or ask for a deep discount due to all the work they will have to invest. An updated kitchen doesn’t have to break the bank, if you re-face instead of replace…

Hawaiian Style

It is no wonder that Hawaii, which means “Land of the Gods” is as close to paradise as it gets. To this day when I think of think of Hawaii it is an island with flowers in bloom bursting with scent and such a variety of color. The sunsets in Hawaii were some of the most amazing that I have ever seen and I was raised in the sunshine state.

Relax in Aruba

I hung the picture above the bed and stood back to take in the view. The image looked bright and inviting with white sugar sand. I imaged it must be cool to the touch of my toes. The water in the shoreline appeared to be a most translucent teal meeting a deep navy line in the horizon which is connected to an azure canopy of sky filled with wispy white clouds.

Room with a View

Endless possibilities abound when the room is not focused on a TV. I love television but for these reading and birdwatching homeowners it was not a requirement. In fact, they were adamant about no TV in the living room because they have a fabulous view. The living room was set up to see the view and enjoy all that nature had to offer but they wanted to add more color to the space.

The Florida Life

Florida is more than a state; it is a state of mind. Like water working its way around every crevasse it encounters, Florida gets into your soul. It does not matter where you are from; the longer your flip flopped feet stay on Florida ground the more complete the transformation becomes.

The Art of Display

For me, the last few weeks of August consist of re-organizing and getting rid of all the clutter that has built up around my home. I don’t really understand where it all comes from and how it accumulates but it does. I drove to the donation center with a truck full of stuff which included a table that I dearly love. I was on the fence about donating the table even though it was in the truck. The nice young…

Quick Fix

I make my bed almost every day! I don’t do it to make sure that I am successful for the day or that I am not embarrassed to have someone see an unmade bed. I do it because at the end of the day, I love walking into a beautifully decorated and put together master bedroom. In my years of decorating I have found that the most ignored space is the master bedroom.
