Decorating Tips

Peaceful Retreat

As I entered the front door of Prana Spa, my favorite retreat in Key West; the world falls away and relaxation wraps me in a gentle and welcoming embrace. The walls are made of Dade county pine providing an earthy warm visual, that when combined with the aromas of essential oils prepare your mind for ninety minutes of complete bliss. I lay on the table already feeling like jelly and looked into the billowing fabric hanging from ceiling creating soft…

Restful White

I spread out my arms and fell back into the billowy white bedding. It felt wonderful! Having just finished a fabulous massage it was time to reap the benefits with a pre-dinner nap. I love amazing hotel bedding because it is always white, fresh and simple. There are no distractions in a hotel room, nothing to be cleaned, no animals to feed, and no laundry to fold; instead I heard just the sounds of the ocean and wind moving through…

Christmas 365

“Do you remember your Christmas play last year Regan?” I asked “Yes! It was about living Christmas 365 days a year.” She replied and the look on her face showed that she was wondering where I was going with this. “Well, you have made some big requests this year, and I was wondering if you felt like you had lived the Christmas principles all 365 days of this year?” She waited a beat looking upward toward the ceiling as if…

Florida Country

Irma will not stop a pre-Christmas visit to Key West! So, in Eight days I will be where the blue of the sky meets the green of the sea! I love to go this time of year because the sunsets move to the south end of the island. We stay at Southernmost Beach Resort and we are able to watch each night as the sun begins its decent and graces the island with beautiful color in the sky. The island…

Fresh Face

I learned several seasons ago that it took time for mashed potatoes and turkey to become the staples of the Thanksgiving Day feast. My niece, Regan had a big idea that we would have a traditional Thanksgiving like the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians shared but I could not dream of being without mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. This once a year Thanksgiving Day feast is one of the most calorie laden decadent meals of the year and I can’t wait!…

Rays of Light

The sky filled with white diamonds that trickled down in wonderful blooms sparkling as they descended toward earth. The Boom! Boom! Sounds were a loud and an unexpected surprise to see from our room at the Yacht Club just outside of Epcot. We were staying for the Food and Wine Festival and chose this property because it can be accessed by walking from Epcot. We did not know that we would get to see the most amazing fireworks display from…

Indoor - Outdoor Fun

This time of year all Floridians look forward to the fall temperatures and they have arrived! Not because the leaves change and everything will be awash in amber tones but because the air is crisp and humidity free. Daytime golf is tolerable and glow in dark golf is ramping up soon. Gentle cool breezes rolling over hills on golf courses make everything pleasant. If you are lucky those breezes will move through the open birdcage or screened in lanai as…

Coral Fresh

I love driving home since the Belleview Beltway has opened for business. Usually, on the cusp of twilight I have been treated to some of the most fabulous sunsets along that new and winding road. The trees beyond the fields of cows create a line of soft foliage backlit and appearing in grayscale against a coral bloom in the autumnal sky. The sun has set and left behind a bright line of hot orange just above the tree tops.

A Little More

Apples and Cinnamon filled the air and the entire house smelled like fall. I pulled the flakey, golden brown, crust filled tray from the oven and my mouth began to water in a Pavlovian response to the warm food. I could only let it set for five minutes before giving in to desire and my first bite was oh so heavenly!

Cool Change

Videos from Key West consistently fill my Facebook feed because the island businesses want to get tourism going again! I clicked on the video and listened as the Hemmingway house guide provided some history of the property to Facebook viewers. We followed throughout the house and learned why this house built by Asa Tift in 1851 can still withstand a category five hurricane.

First Fall Feeling

Hold on tight I thought and my grasp tightened involuntarily on the frame of the large picture. My pony tail whipped and the ends hit me in the face causing me to close my eyes and shake my head. “Oh No don’t let go!” I told myself as the wind swooped between me and the picture. It felt like the six foot canvas could be pulled up into the air like a kite; so I stood there trying to hold…
