Peaceful Retreat

Last week I was at Jacksonville Beach for work and that was fun! This week Labor Day weekend I was at Jensen Beach for a last goodbye to summer trip! Regan and I stood on the fourth floor balcony with an expansive view of the rolling waves and beautiful beach sand. The sun had set and everything had taken on a cool blue glow making the beach seem fresh and other-worldly. A soft breeze replaced the heat of the day…

Florida Life

Florida is more than a state; it is a state of mind. Like water working its way into every crevasse it encounters, Florida gets into your soul. No matter where you are from, the longer your flip flopped feet stay on Florida ground the more complete the transformation becomes. Occasionally, the seas may rage but Florida will embrace you and make it better with bright sunshine skies. There will be the experience of joy when seeing sand hill cranes fly…

Easy Florida Living

I could feel the difference in the air as I stepped out of the van at Jacksonville Beach. The gentle salty breeze embraced me as if welcoming an old friend and I turned my eyes toward the horizon. I could feel the tug of the ocean calling me as I walked up the wooden pathway that gently sloped over the seagrass covered berm. When I reached the peak of the path a crystalline churning ocean could be seen reaching toward…

Bachelors Paradise

My husband and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary and he is still full of surprises. He decided at some point during our trip to Charleston that upon our return he was going to build a bar by the pool and he would do it himself! I did not take it seriously because when you’re on vacation and rested, dreams are hopeful and anything is possible before you get home. So, when I walked out to the lanai and saw…

Wish You Were Here

Remember back when you were thinking of coming to Florida? What was the one image that kept coming into your mind in relation to this great state? I hope you answered palm trees! I know that some think it is Flamingos but palm trees are the reigning king.

Timeless Style

We pushed the lobby door of the King Charles Inn open and stepped out onto Meeting Street. The smell of rain was fresh and had calmed the heat of the day making it surprisingly tolerable for a stroll through the historic streets of Charleston. Moving at a brisk pace through the “Holy City” we passed many churches and I could not wait to get my eyes on some historic homes as we worked our way toward White Point Gardens.

Flooring in Florida

“So if we take this wall down, we will have to replace this flooring. Do you have any more of this?” The Kitchen guy looked at me as if it was unlikely. “I do! We have extra boxes in the attic!” I said my memory finally jarred. I pulled the creaky fold up ladder down and climbed into the darkness. Flipping the switch to illuminate the space revealed three boxes of bamboo and one long plank lying on the top…

Melting Pot

I propped myself back on my elbows and let my head turn upward until all I could see was spacious sky full of stars, and light. The sound of fireworks broke through the warm night air, and the hum of voices grew to collective oohs, and aahs with each new explosion of light. The bright tendrils dripped toward earth as each blast dissipated and a new one took its place. I watched the fireworks display and reflected on this Independence…

Small Dining Room Solutions

“I know that I heard thunder!” I said to my husband. “No. I checked the radar and nothing is coming.” He replied and then added, “So can you hurry up and get ready because I am hungry.” He finished and moved his hand around and around in a wrap it up and let’s go gesture. Finally, ready and walking out the door we heard the “Boom!”

Key West Color

I stepped out of the van and took a deep refreshing breath of the salty southernmost air. It has been seven months since my last Key West adventure and I am happy to be down island again. All worries and cares seem to slough off with each passing day and it is easy to not count the hours and be on island time. In the beginning years of our marriage we would visit Key West once a year for vacation…

Wild Inspired

Now it’s getting fun… I thought as the girl at my table shrieked and yelled out the name of husband’s friend and classmate. Embarrassed, he lowered his head and began eating his food with gusto; as if he wished he was invisible. “You know, I did not want to come to this reunion but now I am so happy to be here and watch this play out.”
