“I made the competition squad for the summer at gymnastics!” Regan said with much excitement. She then started doing back walkovers along the side decking of the pool. “You should be careful or else you will fall in the pool doing all that.” I said, eyebrows knit with worry but not able to look away. “Aunt Ruth, I do these on the balance beam so I will back flip in a straight line.” She replied with assured self-confidence. “Watch I am warming up for my back hand spring.” She said and then she sprung. I held my breath and in a second the flip was done successfully followed by a splash and she was in the water. I sat down to watch her swim and my mind wondered back to my flipping days. I never made it past a simple cartwheel! My days of physical flipping may be behind me but I have many days of furniture flipping left! Let’s take a peek into two living rooms that demonstrate a right flip and a left flip to open up the space. If you have a Gardenia or similar model, this might help your decision to flip, somewhere in the heart of The Villages.
• Traditional Gardenia Left Flip
In the first living room, we moved the entertainment unit off the wall between the windows to the second largest wall, opposing the sliders and it looks great. This wall is a great size for the entertainment unit the homeowner just bought. The sofa was moved into the place of the entertainment center and is now the focal point. We used large art to highlight and balance the focal point with the entertainment unit.
• Other furniture
We placed the two chairs opposing the entertainment unit. These are great for viewing the TV. One chair will float partially in front of the slider shown in the picture and it works great. We placed a side table on each side of the sofa and one in between the chairs. Three lamps give plenty of light.
• Area Rug
We chose a traditional pattern that pulled the space together with colors. The rug is a 9x12 and we laid it straight.
Large art over the sofa is complemented by beautiful black and white pencil etchings from a family member. We hung them above the chairs and opposing the entertainment unit.
• Modern Gardenia Right Flip
The customer liked the idea of flipping but they liked to watch TV when they cooked. The only requirement to flip was that the TV had to go on the wall with the sliders so that the TV could be seen from the kitchen. This can be done but we used a single console instead and hung the TV on the wall above it. This is also a great flip if you have a view. The view and the TV can be seen at one time.
The sofa was moved to the wall between the windows with large artwork as the focal point.
The two recliners are opposing the TV with a table in the middle for the homeowner to use. Two pictures hang above the recliners as well. We were able to place a single chair by the console to round out the seating area. This chair also is partially floating in front of the slider.
The rug is an 8x10 and it is placed at an angle. This is a unique look that also covers the electric plate in the floor. The colors of the rug look great with the art.
Unique silver and glass lamps were placed on each side of the sofa to reinforce the modern flare.
• Red drums
The red drums act as a coffee table or can be moved around the space. These are unique pieces that the homeowner picked up in travel.
