Gifts of the sea
Florida has the largest coral reef ecosystem in the Continental United States. The reef system provides protection, shelter and food for a variety of sea life that spans 358 miles from the Dry Tortugas near Key West and runs north to Martin County. Of all the gifts of the sea the coral reef is arguably one of the most important. In the world of decorating, coral’s intricate forms and textures are beloved for their organic elegance. However, to preserve the reef’s delicate balance, faux coral has become an ethical and stunning alternative. Today’s re-creations capture the essence of real coral species, allowing us to bring their beauty indoors without harming marine life. Let’s peek into a lanai addition that pays homage to coral with a bountiful display of some of the reefs’ most loved species, somewhere in the heart of The Villages.
• Enclosed Lanai
The homeowners wanted a lanai space that could be open or closed and remain functional for all occasions. The large doors open completely to create a seamless connection from the lanai to the pool area. What do you need to have a great lanai and pool space? You need a bar of course, with a large TV and large sitting area with flexible and comfortable seating.
• Bar area
This bar was designed to be a fabulous looking work horse. By maximizing storage with wall-to-wall cabinetry, the homeowners have created a space that is both functional and visually stunning. The two large armoires provide discreet storage, while the central display cabinets showcase stemware and bar glasses, adding a refined touch. The integrated sink ensures a convenient water source for mixing beverages, and the expansive bar surface effortlessly transitions into a buffet station for entertaining. By concealing the ice maker beneath the bar, the design maintains a clean and harmonious aesthetic, ensuring the back cabinetry remains balanced and uncluttered.
• Bar Stools
The bar stools are made so that guests will relax and linger. They are comfortable with an ample platform to accommodate a variety of people. The fabric is a performance fabric that is made for heavy use, and it is highly cleanable. When you buy a performance fabric you don’t have to shy away from crèmes and light fabrics.
• Bar front
The homeowner had the front of the bar covered in a stone that looks like a form of cut coral. This design choice beautifully ties the entire bar area together, creating a cohesive and visually dynamic space. The cut stone on the bar front introduces a natural, organic texture that harmonizes effortlessly with the granite, achieving a seamless flow from the base to the back wall and extending up to the coral display on top of the cabinets. The layering of textures evokes a coastal-inspired sophistication while maintaining an upscale, timeless appeal.
• Lighting
The lighting for the bar area is very important because lighting sets a mood and needs to perform so that you can see what you are doing. Under cabinet lighting highlights the back bar and allows tasks to be performed without harsh overhead lighting. Above cabinet lighting highlights the coral pieces that are dramatic and eye-catching.
• The coral pieces
The coral is all faux, but it looks real! The homeowners purchased it from an online retailer, and it is magnificent. This is not the stuff you buy at discount stores, and it is worth every penny just for the look. The homeowners chose Elkhorn coral on the right of the cabinets and Staghorn coral in the middle of the cabinets. Finally, Carnation coral is displayed above the left armoire. The soft lighting at night adds another layer of depth, casting dramatic shadows and highlighting the textures, making the coral display feel almost lifelike. It transforms the bar into a moody, atmospheric retreat where guests stay a little longer.
• Center table
This receiving table is a true statement piece that blends elegance, functionality, and a touch of tropical charm. The clear glass top allows the Bali-inspired wooden base to remain the focal point, creating an open and airy feel. The stunning clam shell arrangement at the center of the table serves as an inviting display, welcoming guests with a refined yet organic presence. The white orchids are permanent botanicals that provide the beauty of fresh blooms without the upkeep, making them a timeless addition to the space. The clam shell is a lightweight composite so that the arrangement remains light enough to move should the table be needed as a snack area.
• Seating area
This seating arrangement is both elegant and highly functional. The dark brown metal finish adds a sophisticated resort like feel, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor versatility. The classic u-shaped layout encourages conversation, so that guests remain engaged and comfortable in a cozy yet inviting atmosphere. Strategically placed side tables guarantee easy access to drinks and snacks, eliminating the need for guests to stretch or reach behind. Finally, a large coffee table serves as the perfect centerpiece, whether for serving appetizers, hosting a casual game night, or simply adding to the polished, cohesive aesthetic. A large area rug that all the furniture can sit on adds an extra touch of luxury and comfort for bare feet.
• Lamps
The lamps are the amazing finish to the space! The lamps are handmade ceramic pineapples on a clear glass base. They are made in Thailand, and the bottom of the pineapple is covered in a navy-blue glaze. They are a work of art that stands at a prominent thirty-five inches tall. These lamps are unique and rare, creating a perfect finish to the space.
