Prologue to the home

Don’t you just love to read a great prologue to a book, it is a preview of what is inside the pages. In the world of decorating the foyer is the prologue to the home. The foyer sets the stage for a story and introduces guests to the home’s atmosphere and style. It’s the first impression, a glimpse into what lies beyond.
A well-designed foyer hints at the personality of the space, whether it’s grand and dramatic, cozy and inviting, or sleek and modern. Much like a prologue builds anticipation for a novel, a foyer should create intrigue, drawing people in and setting the tone for the experience ahead. Let’s peek into two foyers to see how the prologue invites you inside the great story, somewhere in the heart of The Villages.

  •  Foyer No.1Layered and Curated, prologue to the home, Interior Design - Home Décor by Ruth Dyer.
The first foyer is layered and curated over time. This foyer is a dynamic yet cohesive entryway that feels intentional and welcoming. Instead of a single statement piece dominating the space, layering involves mixing textures, styles, and functional elements to add depth. We started with a strong foundation rug. This rug is a large hand knotted rug that has rich jewel-toned colors, and it looks like it was curated while traveling the world. This is a rug that will stay in the family and be passed on for generations.

  •  Furniture and decorations
The large buffet in the foyer fills the wall completely up to the closet door. This buffet has an old world look and the finish is black with rich brown undertones so that the piece does not appear to be heavy. A large, tall mirror hangs above the buffet, and it is embedded into the wainscot so that it looks customized to the space. The buffet is decorated with two tall buffet lamps and one modern stone statue of a human sitting in lotus position.

  •  Wall covering
The homeowners had natural color grass cloth installed, which added texture, warmth, and classic style to the space. The grass cloth is highlighted by the wainscot that wraps around the foyer and into the main body of the home. The all-white wainscot pops against the black furniture and creates a welcoming layered look.

  •  Art
The art is stacked high to draw the eye upward and create a dramatic impression in the space. The subject of the art is decidedly modern, but the colors are black, white and gold. These colors are neutral but dramatic and create a sense of anticipation to see what lies beyond the prologue of the home.

  •  Foyer No. 2
The homeowner of foyer No. 2 created a space that is effortlessly elegant with a coastal vibe. Effortless elegance is a captivating blend of sophistication and ease. It embraces clean lines and carefully chosen elements that make a lasting impression.

  •  Color Palette
The homeowner started with a neutral color palette of soft whites, warm beiges, and muted grays. This created a serene foundation. The colors in the foyer will be repeated throughout the body of the home.

  •  Large rug
The homeowner purchased a large rug with a traditional pattern. This pattern adds the traditional timelessness to the space and keeps it light.

  •  Wall treatment
The homeowner decided to create one large focal wall which could be seen from the main body of the home as well. This wall is treated with board and batten, but the pattern is a diamond grid. This pattern is a modern twist on a traditional wall treatment. The entire focal wall was painted a color called Breakwater. The color is grey but not a heavy grey.

  •  Final items
The buffet is a tannish wood that provides closed storage for visual weight in the space. The homeowner added a star bust mirror above the table to capture more light. The buffet is adorned with a seashell lamp and a touch of greenery. Finally, the chandelier is gold and ties visually into the starburst mirror.

  •  Great ideas
These two foyers are examples of the diverse tastes from home to home. Whatever your taste, create a foyer that is a good read for your visitors.
